2023-02-04 - Early blog, Hog Cay, started trip north to Buena Vista

Publishing early, as on Sunday we will be out of electronic communications range sailing between Buena Vista Cay and George Town Exuma.

We spent a couple more days on Hog Cay.  We hiked through the brambles, as we had seen a straight line on Google Earth, and some ruins from the trail the previous day, and wanted to explore.

Found the rock wall that was showing as a straight line on Google Earth

Found the ruins of a rectangular building at the top of the wall  Dean used the machete to clear it off a bit.

Walked the trail a bit more, and decided to take a trail marker we found in a swampy part, of a half torso, and dress her up a bit.

Shoes, a plastic green "skirt" a "mesh" top, and a white bucket for head.  Looking good :)

We planned on leaving the next day, so hung our boat marker in the tree by the cruiser hut on Hog Cay beach

Our found and decorated float with our boat name, and also the years we have been at Hog Cay.  It is hanging close to the "What If" marker which is neat, since "What If" used to be our boat.

We had Sojourn over for taco dinner our last night at Hog Cay, and had a very nice evening.  They brought fresh tomatoes, lettuce and some dark chocolate dessert - very yummy.  We will miss them, hopefully we will get a chance to spend more time together later.

Next day, off we sailed to Buena Vista Cay - nice sail.   Decided to check out the south trail, and took the machete to help clear some more brush.

Found a round hole, stopped to look at it and realized it went though to a cave below.  A bit nerve racking to realize you are standing over an opening, which will collapse at some point.  Just hopefully not right now.

The cave we were standing over.

We also walked the north trail

More rock walls.

Our Machete is getting pretty worn out.  Kris had ground and sharpened it, but that trail clearing takes a toll.

One final walk on the south end of Buena Vista Cay before we leave tomorrow - not trail, just walked the ironshore.

Bit steep and precarious in places, but we made it just fine.

Last part was smooth walking back on trail.  Charm anchored in background.

We had a nice Friday Pizza night,  and are heading out this morning, stopping at Flaming Cay, and Water Cay before getting to George Town, Exuma - where will will have internet once again.
