2022-02-07 Georgetown Bahamas

We have been in George Town a week now, and it has been a busy week.

We are anchored at Monument beach, so called as there is a large "monument" at the top of the hill.

There are a couple of trails up to the Monument, and Kris did them all.  Dean did two of them

View looking at the anchorage.  Charm is center and closest to beach, just to the right of the blue powerboat.

We went to get groceries on Sunday, but the store was pretty sold out, so did not get much.

Always cool to go under the bridge to get to the protected inner harbor where the dinghy dock is.

Coming back from grocery store.  Tight walkway

Inner harbor dinghy dock.  You can free water here as well.

They still have daily volleyball here, so Dean went in and played volleyball a few times this week.

Dean in action

Kris has been taking daily walks, Dean plays volleyball or walks.

We met up one evening with 3 other Manta owners, and had a fun time socializing.  We even splurged, and got an order of fries and a coca cola for the evening.

Sandra and Bruce on Namid, Victor and Cresta on Indigo Slam, Lisa and Alex on HaHalua, and yours truly.

Kris has been working on some baking,  tried to make some Keto tortilla chips.   Did not look so good, several things went wrong in the process.

Raw dough ready to bake, looks terrible

Crackers tuned out better looking than dough, with good flavor

Dean jumped in the water and put a new zinc on the starboard prop.  It had fallen off at some point.   Hope it doesn't fall off again, as we only have one more spare.

We took our garbage in - $3 per large bag, and Dean hiked the mile round trip to get our propane tank filled.  While he did that, I walked to the Napa store, looking for a fuse for the sewing machine, but no luck.

Kris worked on the engines, checking oil and coolant levels, cleaning air filters and tried to adjust the starboard alternator position to reduce belt dust.  She also did the same to the port engine, and adjusted the valves on the port engine as well.  She had done the starboard engine some time ago.

Dean spent an afternoon polishing the stainless,  and also cleaned the hull to get rid of diesel engine exhaust reside.  It was not bad, but you could see a little darkness around the exhaust ports.

A while back we were anchored next to some famous YouTube bloggers.  They recently released a video, and showed a lightening storm.   We happened to be anchored next to them during the storm, and in their video, you can see Charm being lit up (not hit) by the lightening.   Here is a link to the video

Here are some photos taken on the many walks Kris (and Dean sometimes) has gone on.   Beautiful beaches, beautiful water.

Some trails have really been fancied up since we where here 8 years ago.

Some trails, not so much

Birds did not want to move out of my way

Beautiful secluded beach

Some large seas crashing on shore

Love looking at what water and wind does to rocks over eons.

Yes, this is the trail, more like hopscotch to avoid the roots.

Hope I never start taking these beaches for granted

Cave where Derek played many years ago still in use

View of the monument from another trail

Someone had built a precarious bench on top of one of the hills.

Heading back to dinghy after a walk.

There are many cruisers here, but most of my walks, we have seen few other people.    Also have seen some damage from hurricanes and some nice rebuilding.

New building with informational signs

Fresh breeze while using the toilets

Used to be a restaurant, now empty and abandoned

Dock has seen better days

Large termite mound

Surprised a naked guy while walking this beach.  Have to walk louder I guess

Top of a very windy hill.  Just a nice photo

  1. I'm curious - what is in that Keto cracker dough? Interesting! And exactly why is there no photo of the naked guy? Haha.

  2. Keto cracker is mozzarella cheese and almond flour. Added some garlic and other spices to it. I melted the mozzarella at too high a temp, and it separated.
