2020-02-20 Little Ragged up to Georgetown

We were planning on staying a little longer in the Ragged Islands, but a weather window came up to head north to George Town on the Exuma's Islands.  Being low on groceries, needing more propane, short on gasoline for the dinghy, and needing to get some hardware, we decided to leave and take advantage of the weather.

At anchorage in the cut between Little Ragged and Ragged Island.  Charm on far left.

Final sunset at Little Ragged.

On the way north we made a couple of stops.  First stop at Hog Cay, where we reconnected with our friends on Sojourn, and Bedouin.   Only stopped for the one day, but it was a busy day.  Went for a walk with our friends on Bedouin, plus some folks we had not met before.

On our walk we found a large dead lobster on the beach.

Another beautiful beach

Charm at anchor at Hog Cay

Lots of hermit crabs on the beach.

Only one night at Hog, and then further north.  There were several of us with the same idea, to catch the weather window so we were joined at the next anchorage by 8 others.   Our next stop was Buena Vista Cay.

Went for another walk, - view is on the Ocean side

Beach birds

Remains of a dwelling that did not make it through the first hurricane.

After one night at Buena Vista Cay, we made the 43 mile sail up to Water Cay for the night.   Dean took advantage of the calm clear water in the anchorage and jumped in to clean the props and hull.  Unfortunately, he found that the zinc on our port saildrive was gone - not corroded away, but just gone.  The other zincs looked very good, with little wear, so no worries, just another project to attend to.  The missing zinc must have just fallen off.  Disappointing, as Dean had just put that on in December, and we had rented scuba gear last time to do it.  Don't know why it would have fallen off.

We just spent the night, at Water Cay did not go ashore after the boat cleaning and left early the next morning at 5:30 a.m. in order to catch the tide right at a narrow pass.   Just a 32 mile run up to George Town.

A group of us heading into the narrow pass.   Beautiful water.

We are the green boat, following the pack heading through the narrow cut.

We were able to sail most the way, and even got the spinnaker up for a while.  Now in Georgetown, where we will get groceries, propane, gasoline and some hardware.   There were more boats here in George Town than we have ever seen, to the point of finding a good spot to anchor difficult.

Moonrise in George Town.  You can see all the anchor lights in the anchorage.

Lots of boats in anchorage in George Town
