Cruising to Morehead City

It was time to move the boat south from Severn Yachting Center and we found a liveaboard spot at Morehead City Yacht Basin.  To get the boat south a mighty crew of Kris and Dean's brother and wife, Lee and Edie, flew from Boise Idaho to Virginia.

We left on 10/11 Severn and while dodging an air craft carrier made it to Deep Locks the first night.

Tied up to the free dock just south of the locks and then walked over to the grocery store for some garlic bread to help make the lasagna dinner a bit better.

Left early and stopped at the Dismal Swamp visitor center and toured the center and board walk.

Continued to Elizabeth City for the second night and tied up to one of the free docks in town on the west side of the bridge.  We had an hour or so of free time and then it rained for the next couple of hours.  That was ok because we were below eating a fine dinner of turkey tacos and then playing pinochle.

Sailed for most of the day south down to the famous Alligator River Marina.  Well it may not be that famous but every time we have come by this way we have stopped and ate at their small cafĂ©.

The next morning was an early up and we were able to sail some of the way but most was motoring because we wanted to get to Campbell Creek anchorage off the Pamlico River.  We dropped the hook by 5pm and had a very relaxing evening under the stars.

Our last day was making to Morehead City Yacht Basin with most of the trip motoring.  We pulled into the marina around 4, tied up and took some long hot showers.  We walked over to a local pizza place for dinner.

We did get to sail some and the boat handled well and the speed made Dean happy, Kris was happy being on the boat.  Kris, Lee and Edie flew back to Boise on Sunday 10/18 and Dean is staying at Morehead City to work on the boat.  Kris thought she should stay and help
