Sassafras River, Mt Harmon Plantation, Rock Creek, and Annapolis

We left Cheasapeake City, and headed to the Sassafras River.  Anchored in Back Creek, near the Harmon House Plantation.

Motoring to Sassafras River

Harmon House is an old Plantation, that has gone through several owners, and now is a public park, where you can tour the grounds and the old house.  It grew tobacco for many years, and then wheat.  They have some tobacco growing, and drying in the old barn for folks to see.

The grounds are large, and home to rabbit, fox, deer, racoon, and more.

Some of the deer were easy to spot.

Others were a bit hidden.

After a couple of days on the Sassafras enjoying the scenic views, we headed to Rock Creek, outside of Baltimore, as it was time to get some groceries.

Old abandoned light house on the Cheasapeake.

The Rock Creek anchorage is not as scenic, but it was only a 2.7 mile walk into a large Safeway, which had the bonus of being located next to a Five Guys.  Of course we had to stop for lunch.  Dean also got a much needed haircut.

We also did some projects - like adding a turks head knot to the wheel, so we know when it is centered.

Changed the old lines on the fenders for new ones.

Only stayed in Rock Creek for a couple of days, and then sailed to Harness Creek, on the south side of Annapolis.  Harness Creek is right next to Quiet Rivers Park.  It is a 2 mile walk from the dinghy dock through the park, and then about a 1/2 mile walk to the grocery store, and other shops.
We keep two propane tanks aboard.  Our first tank ran dry after about 4.5 months of use, so it was time to switch out, and fill the old one for the spare.  Normally we would wait, until there was propane close by, but Dean was up for a walk.

He carried the empty one the 2.25 miles to town, but the full one on the way back got a little heavy.  More breaks were needed on the walk back to rest the arms.
It is a pretty walk through the forest though.

Quiet Rivers Park also has a place where you can rent a stand up paddleboard (SUP) and try them out.  Kris really wants a kayak, or SUP, but cant decide which, so this was a good chance to try one out.   It was not that hard to balance on one.

Still haven't decided which one to get, but have more information now.

Harness Creek early morning.
It is starting to get cooler during the nights, and a bit cooler during the day as well.

Cool enough to have a foggy morning.

Kris is flying back to Boise, to go to a wedding next week, so we will head back north to Rock Creek, so it is a close trip by Uber to the airport, and a nice calm anchorage in any weather for Dean to hang out in.  Then it will be time to head south quickly, to avoid cold weather.

  1. Finally catching up on your blog. You did the trip we had hoped to this summer. We are still working on lightning damage repairs on What If, but hopefully we'll be done in a couple of weeks. Not our favorite way to spend the summer. Oh, and Quiet Waters anchorage was one of our favorites on the Chesapeake.
