2022-12-25 Merry Christmas. Spanish Wells and Hatchet Bay

We went into Spanish Wells, which is a nice little town, with good groceries, clean streets, kept up homes, and busy streets - but mostly all golf carts.

Walked to hardware store, visited with a Manta 40 Catamaran Emanuel V who is docked in Spanish Wells, went out for a nice lunch, got groceries, and then back to boat.

Quite the Christmas Decorations in the yard

Lots of work to inlay the brick for a pretty walk to the house

Hand painted walk to house.  The driveway was also painted similar.
Waiting for the Cheeseburgers and fries to be delivered.

After a day in Spanish Wells, we decided to move, as winds were predicted out of the SW.  We headed south to a quick anchor for the night near a narrow cut you have to time with tide, and early next morning, caught the tide to pass through the cut and head down to our next stop of Hatchet Bay, which has good 360 degree wind and wave protection.

Hatchet Bay has such good protection as the entrance into the bay is quite narrow.
The narrow cut into Hatchet Bay - looks small

The entrance looks wider when lined up, but still not very wide

We enjoyed the calm water of Hatchet Bay, as the previous couple of nights were a bit bouncy at anchor.  Met a couple on a cruising boat, he was from Indiana and she was from Oregon thus the boat name HoosierDuck.  Thought that was a pretty neat boat name for them.

Went for a nice kayak explore, and saw some turtles, and lots of jelly fish.
Most common jellyfish in the bay, quite pretty.  Ranged from 2" to 6" in diameter

Same jelly as above, but side view

There were also some quite pretty transparent jellies.  Much larger - about 12" in diameter

We also walked into town.  The town is called Alice Town.  Not as "kept" as Spanish Wells, but the people were super nice.
Quite a few chickens running loose in town - Kris likes chickens, has to always take a photo when we see one.

Stopped at the grocery store, which was pretty nice for the size of town.

Got a $2 ice cream cone from the local bar/restaurant/store/dinghy dock/trash dump.

Have just been hanging out on the boat, reading, watching movies and relaxing.  Kris sewed a new protector for the outboard, so it doesn't damage the boat if it bumps into it, and made new pillow covers.
Old pillow, getting faded and mildew looking in spots.

New pillows

Its Christmas day today.  Made a nice breakfast of a traditional dish Kris's family has - they call it "Cream Cheese on toast", but it really just a roux with cheddar cheese over toast.   You know how we like our cheese :).  Will move later today, to hopefully go see a Bahamian traditional festival of Junkanoo, and then head further south after that.

  1. Looking forward to seeing photos of the Junkanoo! Hope your travels are smooth - still looks a bit unsettled.
