2022-04-10 Still at Rock Sound, Eleuthera

We are still in Rock Sound.  Have been doing some boat projects.

Windlass maintenance, and some electrical projects.   We went ashore and got groceries, stopped at the hardware store and had a nice lunch out.

Pretty fancy signage :)

Decent hardware store

Went out for lunch at Wild Orchid

Dean relaxing, waiting for our Cheeseburgers.

We met a few other cruisers here, and had some nice visits on the boat from another Manta 42 owner on "Seabbatical", and from another catamaran "Kairos", as well as a nice visit with a family of 6 total on a 50' monohull.  Only the mom and dad came over for a visit.   Toward the end of the week, we moved within Rock Sound to the Northwest side, away from town, as the weather was changing.

Our friends on "Breathe" and "Sojourn" came into the bay later that day as well, so good to visit with them as well.

The guys (Duane, Jason and Dean) visiting on "Breathe"

Charm at anchor in NW Rock Sound

We got off the boat and went for a nice walk ashore with Duane and Karen off "Sojourn".
We found the remains of an old road, and lots of rusted broken apart vehicles and equipment.  Could not figure out what all of it was.
Trying to figure out what the large wheels were for

Remains of an old car, plus other stuff

Saw several sinkholes like this on the walk

The "trail" we took was very overgrown, with lots of prickly brush, so decided to take cut across country and walk the "beach" back.  There was not any beach in some areas, just sharp rocks, so wading was in order.

Karen and Duane skirting the sharp rocks, trying to keep shorts and shoes dry for unplanned water walk.

Saw a nice ray while walking along the beach

Only minor injuries from Kris's stumble and fall on sharp rocks.

Probably time to head out tomorrow, and move further north.

  2. Hi Dean and Kris, Mark and Kelly here formerly of Bigelow Boise. Sounds like good cruising days. Similar to "boondocking" in the deserts of NV, AZ, NM,except we deal with cactus stickers in the foot.We are set to park the trailer and transition to the boat for another summer of San Juan cruising...wish we had your warm water.

    1. Good cruising but today there is a slight roll so will have to move to a new anchor spot, you do not have that issue with the 4 wheel cruising. The water is only 79 so compared to the San Juan of 45 it is very pleasant, also the visibility is much better. Sailing on the Bahama banks it usually is only 25 feet deep but you can see all the coral heads and rocks but it does sometimes freaks you out how shallow it is. Take care Dean
