Vero Beach - Manta meet up

Vero Beach, FL, is often referred to as Velcro Beach for us cruisers, and for good reason.  Lots of stores, that are convenient to get to with a free bus, protected spot - reasonable moorings.

We only stopped for 6 nights, but had a lot of fun.

We got to spend some time with our friends on Sojourn.  We had a couple of days of shopping, and one memorable lunch where we bought Burger King Impossible Burgers, which we took across the street to McDonalds, and ate them with McDonalds fries and drinks.   Best of both worlds.

Lots of shopping meant we are now fully stocked for the 5 months we intend to spend in the Bahamas.
Our freezer is full, and the pantry shelves are fully stocked as well.

We even tried some new foods.  Duane and Karen on Sojourn found out that we had tried grits for the first time in our lives while in St. Augustine.  We got to talking about food, and they found out that not only have we never eaten hominy, but did not even know what it was.  They decided to surprise us, and made up some plain and seasoned hominy for us to try.
It was OK, kinda like rice.  Not something we would rush out and get to have with each meal.

We had a nightly visitor on our back steps.  Pretty bird, but what a mess every day on the steps.  Left spots of blood from nightly fish feasting.

Vero Beach is pretty, and feels tropical.  Palm and large oak trees.
We left after 6 nights, and headed out on a cloudy day on the ICW
At least we were able to use the headsail for a bit to supplement the engines.
There are some nice houses along the way.  Definitely some money down here.

Lots of areas along the ICW have reduced speed zones, due to Manatee habitat.  Most people are very good about going slow.

Food is stocked.  Kris changed the engine oil and filters, and adjusted the valves on the starboard engine.  Kayak is bought.   We are ready for the Bahamas.

Now we just need a weather window - looks like a week before one will happen, so we will move south, and be ready.
