Through the Cape Cod Canal, and on to Boston

We finally left Newport, and with some good winds had a nice sail to a little place called Onset.  Anchored in Onset Bay for a couple of nights.  Onset is special, because it is a nice anchorage right before the Cape Cod Canal.   Current through the canal can be quite strong, so you need to time the passage, at least we do, if we don't want to fight the current with our small engines.

Onset Bay, boats on moorings.  Look at that calm water.

After a short walk into town, and a nice lunch out, we left onset with the tide, and did the little under 7 mile canal trip.

Eastern entrance to canal

After we left the canal we thought we would have good winds to sail, but it once again was a little bit to light to start, but filled in.   We ended up motorsailing, and made it all the way to the large bay outside of Boston.

We did not realize that the Bay outside of Boston was so large, or had so many islands.  We stayed only a couple days.  It was a shame, although scenic, had to find decent spots to anchor, as it is choppy and sloppy with constant ferry and boat wakes.   It did quiet down in the evenings, and we had some wonderful sunsets.

Hung out for a couple of days, then moved up to a mooring ball we reserved in Boston Harbor.

Busy waterway getting in to Boston.

View from the water at downtown.
Toured the U.S.S. Constitution and museum

Had a nice lunch out.

Walked the streets of Beacon Hill

Saw lots of statues.

Made a furry friend in the park

Lot of interesting old buildings and architecture

Lots of parks, with ponds, or fountains.

Some modern buildings that were neat.

Bunker Hill Memorial

Boston at night

Of course, had to have some Chowda

Did not notice any crime, but don't think they locked the bike up like this intentionally.

More interesting buildings

More buildings

All in all had a good time visiting, but ready to leave.  Quite historic, but also a bit touristy.
This is as far north as we are going this year, time to head south again as weather allows.
